MULTIPURPOSE COMPLEX OF 42 APARTMENTS, OFFICES AND SHOPS

NARDÒ (LE) IN VIA ALDO MORO, CORNER OF VIA MANZONI

This project undertaking was aimed primarily at giving architectural unity to the two buildings, despite their very different shape and articulation. For that very same purpose, it was decided not to differentiate the outside image of the storeys and/or blocks to be used as offices and apartments, inasmuch as such differentiation would have further split up and fragmented a complex which instead, on the whole, required coordination as well as planimetric/volumetric appearance. This decision was fully justified by the strategic importance which the detailed plan, of which the job in question was a part, has as part of the development of the city centre, representing as it does the linchpin between what already exists and the new residential expansion project, and the presence of the Incoronata Convent complex, most definitely deserving of greater protection and attention from the surrounding building projects. From the above needs stems the use of common traditional shapes and materials for both buildings: Lecce stone for the raised parts and light marmorino plaster for the flat backgrounds, the arch system crowning the third level which runs along the perimeter of the two buildings, the same system of loggias and verandas on the fourth and fifth levels, the end crowning cornice made of Lecce stone, the system of pillars and pilasters in local stone, the railings made up of plain vertical elements and the outer fixtures of the same shape and colour.
